For more than 30 years, Stedman Graham has been writing books, teaching in colleges, working in communities, leading non-profits, and speaking at workshops throughout the world. In all that time, he has come to know one thing: leadership is everything. The needs of the 21st century cannot be met by “followers.”
According to Stedman, the world is changing at warp speed, and people must be able to stand on a solid platform of self-awareness, equipped with the tools required for self-leadership that allow them to adapt to the ever-changing technologies, ideologies, and circumstances of their lives. Most impotantly, Before you lead others, you must first be able to lead yourself.
Graham has authored 12 books, including two New York Times bestsellers, "You Can Make It Happen: A Nine-Step Plan for Success" and "Teens Can Make It Happen: Nine Steps to Success." His most recent book, "Identity Leadership," is the primary focus of this episode.
Actively involved in education, he is a former adjunct professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago where he taught a leadership course based on his Nine-Step Process. At the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, he taught a management strategy course entitled "The Dynamics of Leadership." He also founded and directed George Washington University's Forum for Sport and Event Management and Marketing - the first of its kind in the country. Graham is a current adjunct professor for several universities around the country.
Graham holds a bachelor's degree in Social Work from Hardin-Simmons University. He received a master's degree in Education from Ball State University and an honorary doctorate in Humanities from Coker College.
"Individuals should not be defined by their circumstances, but
only by their possibilities."
